Thank you to everyone who came out to Springfield

Thank you to everyone who came out to Springfield Community Day and stopped by the Cresheim Trail table yesterday! It’s great to see enthusiasm building as we plan our next phases into the township.

That’s a wrap on our tabling events for the year, but we’ve got three more volunteer workdays to go. The next one is coming on Sunday, October 20th at 9am. Save the date and we’ll share details shortly.

THIS SUNDAY, come and see us at Springfield Commun

THIS SUNDAY, come and see us at Springfield Community Day. The annual event begins at 9am with a 5K race, and we’ll be there 10am–1pm with a table of big maps and small handouts. (Please note: Everything at this event is free, so we will not have our merch for sale.) Springfield Community Day takes place this Sunday October 6th at Cisco Park, 200 Montgomery Avenue in Erdenheim.

The Cresheim Trail will pass through Springfield Township - twice! - on its way to Fort Washington State Park. The “rough draft” of the rail trail currently goes to Stenton Avenue, the boundary between Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. As we design this section and plan for its official construction, we’re already thinking about the next phase, the half-mile in Springfield between Stenton Ave and Mermaid Park. We hope to have more info to share soon.

Well OWL be. Have a look at this t-shirt! It’s the one that supports the Cresheim Trail and sings a song of praise for the Eastern Screech Owl. Well, maybe a whinny of praise. 🦉

Our first delivery of shirts ships out this Friday, so get your order in today! They’re $30 (plus shipping), with all proceeds supporting Friends of the Cresheim Trail and the work we do for the trail — stewardship, advocacy, community connections, screech owl fandom. The shirt's design comes from illustrator @ehinkley. Link is in our bio to purchase.

Screech owl calls include a soft whinny, a bubbly tremolo, and when especially agitated, a screech that gives it its name followed by a clicking of its beak. They grow to about 10 inches tall (much smaller than great horned owls) and nest in high-up cavities of trees — including right along the Cresheim Trail, as seen in pic 3 here.

Happy fall, y'all! And a very big THANK YOU to the 12 volunteers who came out yesterday to help us bid adieu to summer.

We gave the Friends Loop a trim, likewise the rail trail south of Germantown Ave, tidied up the boardwalk, and just generally had a good time making small improvements. Thank you thank you.

Our next time out will be Sunday, October 20th. Save the date and we'll share details soon. Pics here from yesterday's workday by Nick. #nickspics

The early forecast looks pretty, pretty good for t

The early forecast looks pretty, pretty good for this Saturday’s volunteer workday. We’ll have a variety of relatively light tasks to handle in the vicinity south of the Germantown Avenue trailhead, including a little attention to the boardwalk, the usual vegetation trimming, and some other general trail stuff.

We’ll meet at the classic meetup spot, on *northbound* Cresheim Valley Drive opposite Navajo Street. If you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking there (do NOT park on southbound CVD), and if you’re coming from the trail, right on. It’s a 3-minute walk from the Germantown Ave trailhead. That’s THIS SATURDAY, September 21st, at 9am.

ALSO: Be sure to save the dates for our next two workdays: Next month’s, Sun 10/20, will feature some heavier trail lifting, and the following month, Sat 11/16, will be our annual Love Your Park fall planting. Hope to see you at one or some or all!

Hate to do it folks, but we gotta do it. We held out as long as we could to decide, but today’s forecast has too many “storms” and “strong gusts” for us to be working in the woods. So today’s volunteer workday is canceled.

We’ll give it another go next month on Saturday, September 21st, but we’ll be at Supper Sessions in Mt Airy first. Come see us there on Wednesday, September 4th - we’re cooking up some new merch you won’t want to miss.

Hiya folks, just a quick reminder that our August

Hiya folks, just a quick reminder that our August volunteer workday will be THIS SUNDAY, 8/18. We’ll meet at 9am at the classic Cresheim meetup spot on *northbound* Cresheim Valley Drive, opposite Navajo Street.

Exact tasks will be determined and delegated, but it’ll all be trail related, from clearing fallen branches and brush from Debby to vegetation trimming and other minor trail work. Hope to see you then!

Our next workday after that falls on the last day of summer, Saturday September 21st.
