Cresheim Trail
Once again, a gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who c Once again, a gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our fundraiser on Friday and/or who have donated to the Cresheim Trail Campaign so far. We’re collecting funds on this campaign through the end of the month, which is in three days, which means you can donate right now!

The Friends of the Cresheim Trail are working hard to coordinate the growth of the trail across the bridge at Germantown Avenue and through the old rail corridor to Stenton Avenue and beyond. Each section of trail incurs its own massive amount of work, but it’s work we’re doing, so you helping us allows us to help keep the trail going toward its ultimate goal of Fort Washington State Park.

This year alone, we’ve built a half-mile of new trail (in two neighboring sections), installed trail posts, updated the Outdoor Classroom with big oak benches, and had 10 volunteer workdays (so far) that have resulted in tree plantings, trail improvements, and trash removal. This is the kind of stuff your support leads to. Please donate if you can — the link is in our bio.

Thank you! #cresheimtrail #trailbuilding
Oh this? That’s just our sitting State Rep doing Oh this? That’s just our sitting State Rep doing cartwheels at the Cresheim Trail fundraiser… as one does.

A very sincere and very huge THANK YOU to all who came to hang out Among Friends last night! The fundraiser was a great success, we beat the rain, a good time was had by all. Some highlights:

• @reprabb inspired the crowd by explaining why the Cresheim Trail is so important — it brings people together and connects communities, in addition to scenic recreation — while nailing 13 consecutive cartwheels.

• @chestnuthillbrewingcompany brought three tasty selections that poured nicely into our new Cresheim Trail Klean Kanteen cups*. Barley and Hopz were happy to be there too (pic 3).

* We have limited quantities left but we will have cups at our next volunteer workday, Saturday 10/21.

• @nightkitchenbakery donated a lovely variety of 175 cookies that were gone so fast we didn’t even get any pictures. (OOPS)

• And of course @septaphilly casually announced that they’ll be restoring the bridge over Germantown Avenue for a project they’re working on whose end result will see access across the bridge for both SEPTA and the Cresheim Trail. That’s Chief of Communications Bill Webster in the last photo with a rendering. We’ll share details soon, but in a nutshell: SEPTA will need approximately a year for the bridge (planning, engineering, construction), then another 6–12 months to work on their substation that the bridge project is for, but this is the REAL DEAL. The Cresheim Trail will finally cross the bridge!

If you didn’t make it out last night, we missed you, but you can still donate to the Cresheim Trail Campaign, which runs through the end of this month. We’re using the funds we raise to do the legwork to keep the trail moving on the other side of the bridge — out to Stenton Avenue and beyond. The link to donate is in our bio and on our website, cresheimtrail.org. As always, thank you for your support.

It’s just about go time to hang out Among Friend It’s just about go time to hang out Among Friends — at the Cresheim Trail fundraiser TOMORROW. It’s 5–7pm at Chestnut Hill Mermaid Park, the park space between Chestnut Hill Flower & Garden and Mermaid Inn — the same space that serves as the trailhead for the Friends Loop trail we built earlier this year.

About the event:

• NO TICKETS ARE REQUIRED. But donations, of course, are gladly accepted! We’ll have QR codes stationed throughout the grounds, and checks can be made out to Friends of the Cresheim Trail. You can also donate NOW at the link in our bio!

• MERCH: We’ll also have CT merchandise for sale: hats ($20), stainless steel Klean Kanteen cups (which you can use to fill up at the @chestnuthillbrewingcompany tent! – $10), postcards ($2 apiece or $10 for a set of six), koozies ($5), magnets ($3) and stickers ($1). Get em here, they’re only available in person!

• PARKING: We encourage you to hike or bike (via the Cresheim Trail of course — mind the downed tree near the SEPTA bridge as we work to remove it), or take the SEPTA 23 bus, which stops right on Germantown Ave. If you drive, there is parking along Germantown Avenue and Winston Road, and Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting has generously offered their parking lot (20 E Mermaid Lane) for the duration of the event. If you park there, you can enter the Friends Loop at the back of the lot and walk down to the party in under three minutes.

• DRESS CODE: Just kidding, there is no dress code. It’s a trail event! Help us celebrate, support the trail’s growth, and see you tomorrow.

PSA: An old tree has fallen across the main stem o PSA: An old tree has fallen across the main stem of the Cresheim Trail just south of the SEPTA Chestnut Hill West train bridge (and above the long skinny log ride). We have a call in to Parks & Rec and some of our regular volunteers so we hope to have it cleared soon, but in the meantime, please plan on walking around or crawling over.

A rough estimate of the location is marked by the blue pin in slide 3’s map. Thanks to Steve and Damien for the heads up and pics.

Introducing… the CRESHEIM TRAIL CAMPAIGN. Fundra Introducing… the CRESHEIM TRAIL CAMPAIGN. Fundraising campaign, that is.

From now till the end of September, Friends of the Cresheim Trail humbly asks for your support as we raise funds for the necessary next steps to take the trail into its next phase — across the bridge at Germantown Avenue and farther out the old rail corridor toward Stenton Avenue and Montgomery County.

Our fundraiser, Among Friends, is THIS FRIDAY, September 22nd, 5–7pm at Chestnut Hill Mermaid Park — join us for a get-together to talk trail and enjoy beverages donated by @chestnuthillbrewingcompany and sweets donated by @nightkitchenbakery. (BYO picnic — the space is perfect for that!) But even if you can’t make it, you can donate at the link in our bio.

To launch the campaign today, FOCT thanks Mt. Airy’s own, Dr. Rick S. Hock, who kicked off the campaign with a $1,000 donation and an invitation to match it. Rick, pictured in the second slide with former FOCT president Susan Dannenberg, is a longtime volunteer with Friends of the Wissahickon and West Mt Airy Neighbors, in addition to FOCT. His donation today is an invitation to join in the care for the existing Cresheim Trail network and carry the momentum into the next phases.

FOCT is extremely grateful for your support as we look to build on what we’ve done over our first decade and keep looking to the future. Make your donation at the link in our bio. Thank you!

At last, as promised, a new date: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBE At last, as promised, a new date: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND!

Please join Friends of the Cresheim Trail for the rescheduled fundraiser we promised earlier this summer. It’ll be the eve of the autumn equinox — a season to bid farewell and gratitude to summer, to welcome the cooler climes and colors of fall, and to enjoy some fresh poured @chestnuthillbrewingcompany beverages as we talk shop and raise funds for the Cresheim Trail.

It’s been a big year on the trail. We recently finished installing our new trail posts, we’ve built and maintained the Friends Loop on the Chestnut Hill side, and we opened the first iteration of the first section of rail corridor — a path to the future, if you will.

And we hope you will — it’s the future of the Cresheim Trail that will be at the center of this party, Among Friends. It’s coming Friday, September 22nd, 5–7pm, at Chestnut Hill Mermaid Park, the pocket park between Mermaid Inn and the Chestnut Hill Flower Shop. Conveniently, it's also the Friends Loop trailhead.

Save the date and see you there! #cresheimtrail
