Friends of the Cresheim Trail is pleased to invite you to hang out Among Friends. On Friday, September 22nd, we’ll host a fundraiser to benefit the trail and begin the necessary next steps to take the trail across Germantown Avenue and toward Stenton Avenue and Montgomery County.
Join us 5–7pm on the 22nd at Chestnut Hill Mermaid Park, the green space on Germantown Avenue that also serves as the trailhead for the new Friends Loop. Chestnut Hill Brewing Company and some very special guests will be on hand, and we hope you will too.
In 2023, FOCT has been working hard to build momentum and interest in the trail.
- In January, we worked with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to open the first ⅛-mile of trail in the old Pennsylvania Railroad corridor (which future phases of the trail will follow toward Fort Washington). This small but important piece goes from the existing trail’s Upper Loop to a dead end (for now) turnaround at the bridge over Germantown Avenue.
- In March, we hosted a public meeting at Lovett Library in Mt Airy to talk about our plans for the next phases of the trail.
- In April, we partnered with Friends of the Wissahickon and Chestnut Hill Greenspace to open the one-third mile Friends Loop trail through an old quarry and City parkland adjacent to the Cresheim Trail in southern Chestnut Hill.
- In August, we installed 15 new trailposts across the existing Cresheim Trail network between Allens Lane and Germantown Avenue, following FOW’s Wissahickon wayfinding standards.
And there’s more work to do. With this fundraising campaign, we want to start doing that work.
We hope to see you on the 22nd, but you don’t have to wait till then — you can DONATE HERE! We also have some new Cresheim Trail merch for sale (in person only, unfortunately, but we will have it at the event).
Thanks for your support, and see you on the trail.
